Carriage Corner Sew Camps

Carriage Corner Sew Camps

What We Offer

We offer people the chance to get away from their normal day to day and connect with others who love the same things that they do.

We offer the choice of a retreat that has been coordinated and scheduled by us, or one where you gather all your friends together and make arrangements to take over. When you plan your own retreat, you get the choice of having all but one of your meals catered or only having the bed and breakfast breakfast. Both options include coffee, tea, water and cookies available 24 hours.

Last year, I took a deep breath and signed up for the first Carriage Corner Sew Camp in March 2017 and I am so happy that I did. I was a bit apprehensive about spending the weekend fabric shopping and sewing with folks that I didn’t know, but, gosh, I felt welcomed and at home within five minutes of arriving at the B&B.  Everyone was so warm and friendly and I felt immediately that I was among friends.  On top of that, the B&B is so lovely and inviting, and Gaylen and Jay are such great hosts. I was able to relax and enjoy the company, the picturesque surroundings, the delicious food, and, of course, the sewing.  It was a real pleasure to be able to sew to my hearts content and get inspired by everyone else’s projects. I fondly remember taking a coffee break in the gazebo on the front lawn watching the horses & buggies go by – that’s a nice memory also.

Naturally, I had to go back! I eagerly signed up for the next two Sew Camps, made new friends, and enjoyed each one.  I’m disappointed that I’m going to have to miss the September 2018 event due to a conflict, but I am determined to get back to Carriage Corner for some 2019 Sew Camps.

I’m not being dramatic, but Sew Camp changed my sewing life!  This was the first sewing event that I’ve attended in person, I’m pretty introverted if you can believe it and if it’s not online, I usually do not do it.  I read about Sew Camp on Carolyn’s blog (Diary of a Sewing Fanatic) and without thinking, I registered.  I was hoping it didn’t go through, because I must have been crazy to go to Pennsylvania, with people I didn’t know and sew.  I had to explain to my family and co-workers that this was a thing!  I almost back out because I started to think this is as crazy as everyone (who didn’t sew) said.  Then, Gaylen followed up and I knew it was meant to be!  I told you I could be dramatic!  The things I’ve learned at Sew Camp and the connections I’ve made have meant the world to me personally and in my craft.  I realized that this community is very, very welcoming and that there are so many talented people out there that are not influencer.  There are extraordinary people who don’t blog, they don’t really have a social media  presence and they are amazing!  Those super stars, along with the great people that are out there for us all to be inspired by (these people are much greater than what you see online) showed me that there is more to the sewing world than what we see on social media and I learned a valuable lesson about this community and myself.  I realized that getting away and interacting with people is very good for the soul, especially when those people have the same goals as you.   I’ve learned that if I left my sewing cave, I wouldn’t “actually” shrivel up, but I would flourish.   There was a place for everyone at Sew Camp and everyone was so nice, so encouraging and sooo helpful.  The Shopping was amazing, I was like a kid in a candy store, I literally shut down from fabric overload!!!!  But, the second best part of this was, I didn’t have to make my bed (which I did) or cook!  All I had to do was make it to the table in the morning and sew, there were no requirements other than being myself.  I sewed into the wee hours of the morning, I asked questions, I got help and sometimes I just sat and watched others sew and knit.  This was a rewarding experience that I don’t know if I can properly articulate.  I couldn’t have picked a better group of ladies to hang out with and I can’t wait to do it again this summer!
